Sense of atmosphere was completely lacking, and I thought that strange as the Amiga version had better sound hardware than the IIGS, IIRC. What I liked about the IIGS version, though, were the sound effects of moving through town-while although the Amiga version was the best in terms of the actual Bard tunes played, it was very dull just moving about the city, etc.

) (While I played the Amiga versions on Amigas, I only played with the IIGS version emulated under Windows much later.) I seem to remember of the original Amiga versions that the Bardsongs were all done with individual instruments, whereas what I recall of the IIGS version was a harpsichord for everything.but, that was a long time ago, too, so I may not remember correctly. It looks to me like Chrome has taken most of its cues from the Amiga versions, imo. Sounds like Krome is getting mixed signals from players of the originals.Įven the original versions had their differences-the IIGS version was different from the DOS version in some respects-and the Amiga version differed from the IIGS version in some respects, too. It is possible that Olde Skuul changed the behavior in their remaster, though I wouldn't know why, since the original IIgs behavior makes sense.

While the Krome code is a rewrite from the ground up, the Olde Skuul code was used as a reference. The Olde Skuul code was based off the IIgs port by Heineman. Trapped chests from random encounters on the IIgs were a rarity, but I think that I have seen them.

Random encounters on the Mac never dropped their loot in a trapped chest, iirc. Fixed encounters on those platforms always dropped that loot in a trapped chest. On the Mac and IIgs, all encounters gave gold and possibly items. That would be a per-platform difference or a misremembering.
